Street Casting
In a society heavily induced by the impacts of social media, the last few years has seen an increase in a change towards the image within the fashion industry. Some may argue that with the effects of social media casting has meant that we are seeing the same typical conventional beauty, whereas other may point out that this has paved the way for a wider image of models to be seen and has paved the way for brands and casting directors to challenge the image of the typical "prim and proper" model. Either way over the last year we have seen an increase in brands that remove the world of social media completely and cast how it began, on the street.
Consider designer Molly Goddard, the young London based designer featured models that were like your everyday woman. They were not tall and slender with sleek hair, but they were real girls fuelling the aspects of the unconventional image. The show cast was hand picked by Goddard's sister, who street casted all of the girls within the show.
Rapper turned designer Kanye West is never shy from a headline in the media for a new image or business adventure. However, with launching Yeezy season 3. The designer sent out a bulletin for an open, street casting for many of the models used in his show. The show that was also a listening concert challeneged the ideals of body image, age and more importantly the everyday being.
Take a look at the selction of designers who have street casted their models or simply selected the new but real model within their show season. Join the conversation and let us know what you think.
